Starfield will only be released on PC and Xbox but the acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft did not influence this choice since the game was already an exclusive Xbox console even before the Redmond house decided to buy the giant Zenimax.
To reveal it is Todd Howardwho recalls how his company has always had a good relationship with Microsoft, since the days of Morrowind for Xbox:
“We have been working with Microsoft since the days of Morrowind for the first Xbox, at one point they came to us asking for a new Xbox game and we were ok with it. We are developers historically linked to the PC and with the arrival of Xbox we moved to console as well but Starfield exclusive is nothing new for us I think PlayStation 5 is a great machine and we have done many projects on PlayStation however Morrowind is Xbox exclusive and Oblivion has been exclusive for a really long time so how Skyrim expansions came out on Xbox first.”
Howard then reveals how the company has worked on many games “thinking them from the beginning as Xbox exclusives” and in the case of Starfield the absence of a PS5 version will guarantee great benefits to the game, as the team will be able to focus solely on a single console version also thanks to the help of Microsoft programmers, technicians and engineers working to support Bethesda Game Studios.
