The second trailer for Super Mario Bros. : the Film was broadcast yesterday during a special Nintendo Direct. It’s a two-minute trailer that was released, highlighting new characters like Peach and Luigi but also illustrating many references to the universe.

As we hypothesized yesterday, it is Peach (dubbed by Anya Taylor-Joy in VO) who lends her voice to the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. Donkey Kong (although silent in the trailer) is also present and has been remodeled for the occasion while Luigi, the protagonist’s brother, seems to have retained his fearful character and seems to be in an unenviable situation with Bowser.

This second trailer, which lasts a little over two minutes, seems to tell the very arrival of Mario in the Mushroom Kingdom: it is therefore before he settles as an essential figure in the country since he is brought (we don’t know yet how) to help Peach who wants to repel the invasion of the Kingdom by the Eternal Bowser. A goal that will not be without obstacles as evidenced by the trailer and the few failures suffered by Mario, whether against Donkey Kong or on platforms.

An adaptation full of winks!

This is where the charm of the trailer released yesterday lies: it is full of references to the Mario universe, which fans will probably recognize at first glance. The first seconds illustrate the beginnings of the plumber in the game Donkey Kong (released more than 40 years ago), having to save a damsel in distress (it was then Pauline at the time, and not Peach) by crossing many red bridges while avoiding the barrels thrown at it. Then follows many winks with the game Super Mario Bros. (the platform jump, but also the flower of fire and the Tanuki power), all this without counting the “many galaxies to discover” mentioned by Peach before ending with Mario Kart and what is similar to the Rainbow Road.

In any case, this trailer promises the integration of several references from Mario’s adventures through the feature film. It was in any case welcomed by fans and amateurs of the Mario universe, who all underline the excellent quality of the dubbing of the French actors. What to wait impatiently for the release of the film in cinemas in France, scheduled for March 29, 2023.
