For or against the Rings of Power series on Amazon Prime Video? An iconic actor from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy has chosen his side!
The Rings of Power, against all odds
The first season may have found its conclusion for several weeks, the broadcast of the series The Rings of Power has marked the spirits. Whether you are a fan of JRR Tolkien’s work or not, the series available on Amazon Prime Video made choices that left no one indifferent. Subject to controversy even before its launch, The Rings of Power has seen its main actors react again recently about the racist attacks of which they have been the target and which have inflamed the web for many weeks. Lately, fans of this adaptation have had the pleasant surprise of seeing the arrival of new unpublished content around the creation of the series with a making-of in 8 episodes revealing behind the scenes of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on the Amazon Prime Video platform. Now, it’s an emblematic figure from Peter Jackson’s film trilogy who speaks up to defend The Rings of Power…
A Hobbit takes the defense of the Amazon series
This isn’t the first time a key player in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy has stepped up to defend the original series on Amazon Prime. When some of its actors were the target of racist attacks, many people spoke up quickly to explain that everyone is welcome in Middle-earth, regardless of skin color. Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin were quick to come to the aid of the series The Rings of Power by showing their support for the actors.
But as to how much The Lord of the Rings stars enjoyed this new series, there’s little to be said. We know, however, that for Elijah Wood, who played Frodo in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, “it’s not the Lord of the Rings”. It’s hard to argue with that, since the series is set long before the War of the One Ring to tell us about the key events of the Second Agebeginning with the creation of the various rings, the destiny of Númenor and the rise of Sauron to power in Middle-earth.
If the overall title of the series is certainly a bit misleading, another Hobbit clearly defends the choices made by the showrunners. Actor Billy Boyd (Pippin) told SYFY Wire that he really liked The Rings of Power and that he particularly enjoyed the way Tolkien’s parts of the world were recreated in the series. Billy Boyd said he was amazed at the variety of spectacular locations the first season managed to present.
I saw it. I liked her very much. As a Tolkien fan, I loved seeing all of these places again – some for the first time. You know, seeing Khazad-dûm and Númenor and all those places. I think that’s what gave me the most joy. I think the way they jump from place to place made the movie very enjoyable to me. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re in Númenor’, and then the movie went to the caves of Khazad-dûm. I loved it. And, seeing things like the rings for the first time – all of that is just really gratifying to me. I loved ! – Billy Boyd
Statements that closely match those delivered by Andy Serkis (Gollum) who found the series “beautifully done”, constituting “a very beautiful interpretation” of the creation of the rings of power at a time long before that of Lord of the Rings. If you also want to know the rest, go for season 2…
