Aroged, Malang Regency – Back in October, a job posting indicated that Valve was planning to invest further in the VR space to reach more customers. A few days ago, on November 22 2022 to be precise, the release of a new VR controller patent owned by Valve is another indication that Valve is indeed intending to get involved in the VR platform.
Valve’s move to plunge into the world of VR itself is not a surprise. They have also made a VR device called Steam Index which was released about 3 years ago. However, apart from all that, Valve’s seriousness in getting into the world of VR is the success of Half-Life Alyx from 2020.

Valve’s own patent is described as “an electronic controller with a linear hand strap adjustment” and various points focus on the design of the carry strap. The sketch shown is the only hint of what the VR controller could look like at this time.
Another thing to note is the placement of a ring-shaped lamp. The ring-shaped light is used as a tracking tool similar to what Oculus’s VR controller has.

There is no further explanation regarding the rumor that this VR controller has a relationship with the Deckard VR Headset. However, there is a possibility that the two things are related.

Even though it focuses more on the hardware sector, Valve also doesn’t forget its game development division. Currently they are in the development of a game. It is not known whether the game development project will be a big AAA game like Half-Life Alyx, but they will certainly support Valve’s new VR project with a new game.
