Gerald “Jerry” Lawson is celebrating his 82nd birthday today. And even if very few know his name, he is considered the pioneer of our favorite hobby. Jerry is the lead developer who created the first game console with cartridges “Fairchild Channel F”. The console was revolutionary at the time, because you didn’t have to rely on pre-installed games, but could always insert new games. The 8-way joystick, which is indispensable today, also celebrated its premiere back then. In his honor, Google has therefore adapted its Google Doodle (the Google logo on the start page) and installed an interactive game with an editor.
So if you want to quickly put together a jump’n’run or a breakout clone, you have the tool at hand here and can even share your results. Thanks to keys, switches, boxes and opponents, sliding puzzles or small “find the key” puzzles are also possible. The editor is similar to Super Mario Maker as everything is divided into blocks and intuitive to use. You can also allude to your level at any time. If you want to try our attempt at a breakout clone based around our logo, then click here! Otherwise, we wish you a lot of fun with today’s Google Doodle.
