The AD104 GPU that should power the RTX 4070 Ti, and also the less powerful but cheaper RTX 4070, is half the AD102 GPU that powers the top of the RTX 4090, but it shouldn’t cost half the price.
RTX 4070 GPU is half the size, but not half the price
Therefore, an image of the AD104 GPU has arrived on the Internet, which is undeniably very interesting, especially if we assume that it is the 100% unlocked version of the graphics chip, and that for this very reason, it should give life to the RTX 4080 with 12GB of RAM, but now it must give life to the RTX 4070 Ti (the exact same card, with a different name).
That is, a GPU with 60 stream multiprocessors, 7680 CUDA cores, 240 Tensor cores, and 60 RT cores. All based on the 4nm process. In terms of size, the AD104 has dimensions of 295 mm², that is, about half of the AD102 GPU. Interestingly, it is also 100mm² smaller than the GA104 GPU, which powers the current RTX 3070. (However, despite the reduction in size, the performance is superior).
Price is not also half? Because?
Well, according to some rumours, NVIDIA is planning to ask around €1000 for the RTX 4070 Ti at launch, with the RTX 4070 dropping to €700~800. Aggressive pricing, which in the fairly recent past would be prices for high-end components.
But it’s all a matter of waiting, as NVIDIA is expected to present this card, and others (namely the RTX 40 mobile), at CES 2023 in January.
Also, what do you think about all this? Do you think NVIDIA is abusing the prices of the new generation? 1000€ for an RTX 4070 Ti is an exaggeration, when in 2018 this bought the most powerful card of the generation at the time? Also, share your opinion with us in the comments box below.
