Driven by the unprecedented success of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Nintendo Switch has established itself as the best-selling console during the Black Friday period in the UK.
After having recorded record numbers in Japan following the new chapter of Pokémon, the hybrid console of the big N also conquers the British public: in the Black Friday week it represented the 42% of all consoles sold. To help was the return of the bundle with a Neon-colored Switch, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and three months of Nintendo Switch Online.
Despite this, it’s a much weaker performance than last year’s Black Friday for Nintendo. The company has indeed faced a fierce competition, led by a particularly aggressive offer from Xbox. Microsoft has significantly reduced the price of Xbox Series S, thus managing to convince many users to buy the next-gen entry level console. Also PS5 received some small discounts on its digital edition, but Sony’s console only accounted for 18% of overall sales.
Revenue during the Black Friday 2022 41% come from consoles, 39% from accessories and 21% from physical games, the smallest share for software to date. 81% of Black Friday 2022 sales were through online retailers, the second-largest figure on record. VR was once again the protagonist, led by the Meta Quest 2 bundle with Resident Evil 4 VR, while controllers were the second best-selling accessory during this period.
