During Marvel’s Midnight Suns you might catch your eye on a particular tree, on whose bark it says: Luke Was Here. This is a tribute that the developers wanted to dedicate to a fan of the game, who unfortunately passed away on November 12th.
A Luke Wiltshire was diagnosed a neuroblastoma, a rare and brutal cancer affecting the sympathetic nervous system, when she was just 14 years old. During the nine years of treatment and the immobility in which he was forced, Luke found solace in video games and Marvel heroes. Last year, when he learned that his situation was not improving and that there seemed to be no more treatment options, Luke made his last wish: giocare a Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
The boy’s sister contacted the charity Solving Kids’ Cancer, who, not knowing exactly how to contact the Firaxis developers, published a post about it on Linkedin. The tons of shares helped Luke reach out to Firaxis and 2K and get a little preview of the game.
The build of the strategic Marvel was by no means ready at the time, but the development team managed to package as best as they could the first section of the game, which Luke was able to preview. The guy even gave his own opinion on this matter, and that’s why it was nominato game design consultant in the credits. Luke sadly passed away just weeks after granting his last wish. To retrace the moving story of Luke Wiltshire you can consult the video that we reported at the beginning, in which the boy’s sister tells the facts.
