Announced recently, the remake of the very first The Witcher is already furiously desired by a large community. However, we will have to be patient since the project is not expected for years, as CD Projekt has just announced.
A remake, yes, but not right away
It is not without some surprise that we recently learned of the development of a huge remake of The Witcher first of the name. This one is being developed by Fool’s Theory, a studio founded by former CD Projekt RED employees who managed to land themselves a prime contract, as you can imagine.
Only here, the site is still far, very far from being finished. The CEO of CD Projekt, Adam Kiciński, thus comes during the last quarterly report of the studio to release an essential detail: The Witcher Remake won’t be released until after The Witcher 4, which itself is slated for quite a while.
The Witcher 4 is also not its official name since this new component, designed by the iconic Polish firm, will mark the beginning of a whole new trilogy. Geralt de Riv will no longer be the playable hero and the engine used will be Unreal Engine 5.
A long-awaited revamp
There is a reason for this statement by Kiciński: The Witcher 4 will exploit the Unreal Engine 5 and all the technologies used by CD Projekt RED, which will be used to direct Fool’s Theory for the gestation of The Witcher Remake. With the two organizations working closely together, the fourth installment will obviously serve as the basis for the overhaul of the first game.
As a reminder, the famous The Witcher 4 currently has the code name “Polaris”. Adam Kiciński states:
Going back to The Witcher Remake and when it will be released: yes, it will come after Polaris (The Witcher 4, editor’s note), which stems from our way of seeing this project. I think The Witcher Remake will be based largely on Polaris technologies, so it will be developed partly alongside Polaris. But once Polaris launches, everything that will be in the final product will be partially reused in the remake.
In short, be patient and watchful.
