In October of this year, CD Projekt RED surprisingly announced a remake of the role-playing game The Witcher. Even then, the team made it clear that work on this extensive project was still at a very early stage. But the release of the new edition will probably be a lot longer in coming than many of you would have thought.
When is The Witcher remake coming out?
Managing Director Adam Kiciński spoke at a recent investor conference to report on some of the development studio’s current projects. Among other things, it was about Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC Phantom Liberty, but of course the remake of The Witcher (buy now €119.95) was also discussed. When asked about its release date, Kiciński had an answer that was certainly somewhat disappointing for many fans.
“The Witcher remake will be post-Polaris. It’s a consequence of how we feel about this project. We believe the remake will be largely based on Polaris technology, so some of it will be developed in parallel with Polaris . But once Polaris is released, everything for Polaris is in its final form, which will then be partially incorporated into the remake.”

Netflix has now released a new teaser trailer for the prequel project The Witcher: Blood Origin.
What is this “Polaris”?
“Polaris” is the internal codename for The Witcher 4 or whatever the next game in the RPG series will eventually be called. Accordingly, the remake of The Witcher will only appear after the release of The Witcher 4. However, no specific date has yet been set for this. Therefore, you should assume that you will have to wait several more years before you can enjoy the new edition. Incidentally, this is based – just like the next game from The Witcher – on the Unreal Engine 5.
