Frictional Games has announced the next game in the terrifying Amnesia series, Amnesia: The Bunker, and it’s potentially the biggest departure from the series.
The studio has announced that the next Amnesia game will be released on Xbox, PlayStation and PC in 2023. The developers call Amnesia: The Bunker their most open game: players will be able to explore a semi-open world with almost no scenario events.
This means that players will be able to explore various paths and areas without restrictions, but the horror will come from the “always present threat”, so be on the lookout. In addition, players will be able to choose their style of play, as they will have at their disposal both a revolver and a noisy dynamo flashlight. While players will be able to defend themselves, they will also be able to survive through stealth.
In Amnesia: The Bunker, you play as a French soldier who is haunted by amnesia. The game takes place in a dark bunker during the First World War. Frictional promises multiple solutions to every challenge, puzzle, and other obstacle, all contributing to a new sense of freedom and openness in the new Amnesia game. The semi-open world, according to the developers, actively encourages exploration and experimentation, but every decision can change the result of the game’s reaction. Given that the game does not have a script, objects, threats and resources will also change in each playthrough.
Amnesia: The Bunker is the last game in the Amnesia series after Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, and Amnesia: Rebirth.
