Get your whip and slouch hat out, friends! The first trailer for Indiana Jones 5 has been released. You can see about 1:40 minutes of brand new scenes from the upcoming adventure flick. The title is now also known: The fifth and final part starring Harrison Ford will be called Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, although we expect the title to be Germanized again in this country.
The film is primarily set in 1969 and opens a new chapter for Indy. The space race is in full swing, Americans and Soviets are trying to outdo each other. When the US government also recruits ex-Nazis, our favorite archaeologist has serious doubts about the undertaking. Along with his goddaughter (played by “Fleabag” star Phoebe Waller-Bridge), Jones will be embroiled in a brand new adventure in which we will meet many fresh faces: Antonio Banderas, Toby Jones and Thomas Kretschmann will play brand new characters, as well as you could Mads Mikkelsen (Star Wars: Rogue One) as a new villain. The trailer also returns John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings) in his iconic role as the lovable Sallah. The 78-year-old Briton had already played the part in the first and third films. A return of Shia LaBeouf as Indy’s son, on the other hand, is considered very unlikely. An appearance by Karen Allen as Marion has not yet been confirmed.

The technical implementation of the film should also be particularly exciting, because it was already confirmed in advance that Harrison Ford will be digitally rejuvenated for some scenes. In the trailer we also get a short, worth seeing foretaste (at 0:44). Despite such tricks, director James Mangold wants to do without CGI effects as much as possible in order to find a believable look. Can only be fine with us! We still shudder when we remember the killer ants or the jungle chase from the last Indy movie.

The fans had to wait a long time for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny: The controversial fourth part Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was already 14 (!) years ago. The fifth film had been in production for a long time, the script was repeatedly revised and the start date was postponed. Steven Spielberg eventually dropped out as director, making way for James Mangold (Walk the Linke, 3:10 to Yuma, Logan), who also co-wrote the screenplay with John-Henry Butterworth and Jez Butterworth. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are still listed as executive producers on IMDB.
Alongside the trailer, Lucasfilm has also released a new poster for the film.

Harrison Ford had made it clear in advance that this would be his last appearance as the iconic whip-wielder. But that’s not the only farewell: Legendary composer John Williams has also announced his retirement after Indy 5. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled to hit theaters in Germany on June 29, 2023. And even if it’s a bit lost in the meantime: A new video game about Indiana Jones is also in development! Publisher Bethesda announced the project a year ago. The still secret game is set to tell a brand new story and is being developed by Machine Games (Wolfenstein: The New Colossus).
