As the publication reported, “Kommersant”, the government is working on a video game age labeling system. It is planned to be included in the federal project “Regulatory regulation of the digital environment” as part of the national program “Digital Economy” this year. The rating system has existed in the gaming industry for a long time, for example, in 39 European countries since 2003 GO (Pan European Game Information). And in the USA and Canada in 1994 they introduced a rating ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board). In Russian legislation, the law “On the protection of children from information that is harmful to their health and development” provides for age marking of content. However, it covers all information products, including databases. And the classification of video games should be carried out by their creators or publishers, government agencies can only consider an already released game. Video games are not only information as such, but also the process of interacting with it: the use of game mechanics, certain actions, and so on. Because of this, there is no wide practice of applying this Federal Law to games now. Alexander Malakhov, Head of the Digital Development Department of the TsSR, however, the introduction of additional regulation may adversely affect game studios and publishing houses, as it will require the expansion of legal departments to verify developments. The Ministry of Economic Development confirmed , which is working on a system for age marking of video games and is ready to consider any suggestions and comments.
