It’s official, working from home is a new normal in our professional world. The results of a recent survey show that for 75% of international workers, the possibility of adopting a flexible way of working is essential to the success of their career.

However, as much as we crave flexible working conditions, the fact remains that the way and place of work has completely changed in just under two years, which means that new standards, rules and barriers must be overcome.

If you are a boss, there are new rules that you must follow to ensure the success of your employees and the success of teleworking within your structure.

Offer true flexibility

This will vary from industry to industry and worker to worker, but hybrid working requires real flexibility. These can be flexible working hours that can be tailored to personal commitments, or the ability to choose work-from-home days based on team projects and goals.

True flexibility requires trust on the part of the employer and commitment on the part of the worker to achieve goals and stay productive. In fact, studies have shown that workers who can fit tasks into their personal schedule are more productive, with remote workers wasting less time than those who stay in the office.

Fight proximity bias

Proximity bias, a phenomenon in the workplace where managers tend to treat workers who are physically closer to them more favorably, is a reality that remote workers face. So much so that companies like HubSpot, the CRM giant, have implemented internal programs to combat it.

For those of us who work for employers who have not yet taken these steps, personal strategies to ensure progression are needed. This could mean arranging regular interviews with your boss or circulating a weekly email throughout the company to show off your accomplishments for the week.

Establish a new corporate culture

Remote work implies that the culture of the office has changed. To keep workers engaged, employers need to establish new cultural norms. This can be making sure everyone has a camera for video meetings or setting an agenda before team meetings. These ideas need to be put in place: What traditionally worked when everyone was in the office will no longer work now that people are remote, and it is imperative that companies recognize this fact and respond to it as soon as possible.

Set limits

What is the acceptable response time for remote workers? Can you ignore a co-worker’s phone call or Slack message while you focus on a task, or should you be expected to be reachable all the time? It is important for both companies and workers to set and recognize boundaries. A simple way to tackle response time is to make publicly available diaries that show time spent on in-depth work – so colleagues know when they can expect a response and management knows. of your time management.

Accept the status quo

Flexible working is not something a company can put off, flexible working is here now. It’s what workers want, so much so that 54% are willing to change jobs if they can’t get it, which means companies that refuse to accept the status quo will struggle to retain talent.

There are a host of companies known to offer flexible working options among their many perks – and many of them are hiring right now. We’ve selected three below, all of which are hiring for multiple positions.
