That Bethesda is working on several highly anticipated projects by thousands and thousands of players is now safe. There are many titles that fans of the company hope to be able to get their hands on over the next few years, as there are many sagas whose return has been awaited for a long time now. Among these certainly two of the most important names are Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. While we know that Fallout is about to return with a Prime Video TV series, the fate of Skyrim’s successor is still shrouded in mystery. In this regard, in a recent interview with the Lex Fridman podcast, Todd Howard recently returned to talk about the title, revealing some interesting news that will make all players happy.
To begin with, Howard said he is aware that the wait for these new games becomes more and more stressful every year. But unfortunately these new Bethesda titles just keep getting biggerwith such a large amount of content that it takes more and more time to reach an adequate quality level.
“I have a rough idea of when The Elder Scrolls 6 will come out. I wish it came earlier. We wish it was out already and we wish it didn’t take as long as it does, but it is. Look, if I could go back in time, it wouldn’t be part of my plan to wait that long.”
If on the one hand the increasing size of these projects requires longer development times, on the other: the large size, the enormous number of contents present and the constant support from the developers allow these titles to enjoy life cycles of the duration of many years. About that Howard is convinced that the fate of The Elder Scrolls 6 will be the same as Skyrim. Players will therefore be busy living adventures in the game world for at least a decade.
“We’ll make sure it’s okay for everyone. People play games for a long time you know. Skyrim is 11 years old and probably our most played title. It knows no crisis and probably many will still play in ten years. So you have to think people are going to be playing the next The Elder Scrolls for a decade, two decades. This changes the way you design it from the ground up.“
Before taking his leave Howard reiterates that again The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in an early stage of development. The developers would therefore be busy defining the game world and creating the first concept art. Reportedly the first prototypes of the game will see the light only when the work behind Starfield will come to an end.
