Goalkeeper of the Costa Rica national football team Keylor Navas spoke about the attitude of fans towards the players of the team:
“A true football fan is the one who supports in difficult times. But our culture is not like that. I really want her to change. But for now it’s the way it is. After a goal, the fans celebrate and hug each other, and then after a missed one, it’s bad. They speak out and shit on our moms.
Sounds bad, but it’s true. Maybe I shouldn’t have used that word, but footballers live it on their own skin. We don’t want to lose, we want to win. Or do you think otherwise? I want to beat Spain, Germany, everyone and become world champions.
People don’t understand that we have a very strong and high-status opponent, that these are high-level players, many of them see only on TV, they play in the Champions League and some world champions. It’s not an excuse, it’s reality.”
Note that Costa Rica was unable to reach the playoffs of the 2022 FIFA World Cup from the group, which also included the national teams of Spain, Germany and Japan. In the last round, the Costa Ricans lost to the Germans with a score of 2:4.
