Appears with a delay of a year and a half Metal Slug 3 still in PAL realms. While Japanese 2D fans are already holding the fourth part in their hands, European shooters are coming after the PSone title Metal Slug X for the second time enjoying SNK’s shoot ’em up series.
With a simple three-button control you steer your pixel warrior from left to right through five levels full of enemy soldiers, shambling zombies and hostile flora and fauna. The eponymous slugs have been there since the first episode: From time to time you swing into the cockpit of tanks and robots or ride an ostrich armed with machine guns. But your hero also knows how to help himself with a rocket launcher, shotgun or laser. If you have survived the many dangers of a level, a mostly oversized boss opponent presents himself for the final showdown.
Metal Slug 3 is the longest part of the series, but you can already see the credits after almost 60 minutes. However, one innovation provides additional long-term motivation: There are two to three branches per level, which take you from the ocean floor to the zombie graveyard in a wide variety of worlds.
