There is one thing in common between this end of the year and the beginning of the next: the visceral horror where each encounter ends in a bloodbath. On the one hand, The Callisto Protocol, which launched today on the various media and, on the other, the remake of Dead Space which will give us cold sweats from January. While waiting to see his creation revive under the aegis of Electronic Arts, Glen Schofield wanted to outdo him and hit hard with The Callisto Protocol. But what could be scariest about this title is its plummeting Steam rating.

Dead Space-like’s Biggest Horror Would Be… Its PC Optimization
Dead Space-like’s biggest horror would be… its PC optimization
Throughout its communications campaign, The Callisto Protocol had pushed the horror sliders all the way : abominable creators on the one hand, environments that instantly provoke terrible anguish, the other. Horrific arguments, the title of the teams of Striking Distance Studios, published by Krafton (to whom we owe PUBGfor example), clearly had it in spades and had put all the means on its side during the development, also enthusiastically backed by Sony and PlayStationto become one of the most traumatic experiences of recent years. If you are curious to know more before embarking on this adventure which will require you to have a strong heart, you can take a look at our test.
Thus, after months of highlighting its strengths, The Callisto Protocol was expected at the turn, in particular because he aspired to walk on the flowerbeds of Dead Space, the first horrific project from the creator of this new license. Unfortunately, players seem much more scared by the title’s performance on PC than by the morbid events unfolding on Callisto: the far side of Jupiter’s dead moon was hiding a terrible secret, but it was not what we thought. And that, the players discovered it at their expense by launching the title, shortly after going to the checkout.
Steam gamers are living hell on PC, they’re going after the game’s rating
On the Steam gaming platform, it’s carnage for The Callisto Protocol. The players are rather furious and the negative testimonies follow one another: some protest against poor PC game optimizationothers complain against the unfortunate tendency of publishers and developers to release products that do not seem “finished” (i.e. games that need patches, after their release). All while taking the time to do the story of the technical problems they encounterlike this Reddit user which faces serious framerate concerns (or “stuttering”, a phenomenon which results in jerks, an absence of fluidity) since it does not even manage to reach 60 frames per second despite the presence of a GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card (a component that costs almost twice as much as a next-gen console) in its PC !
Inevitably, among Steam players, this error does not pass and they make life hell for The Callisto Protocol by assigning it ratings that are worse than each other. Currently, there are nearly 5300 reviews (5288, to be exact) and only 34% of these are positive, which means that the title has a “rather negative” rating on the Valve platform. For the moment, the discontent of the players has not yet reached the Metacritic ratings aggregator which is often stormed in this kind of situation. The calm before the storm ? We hope not because Krafton, the publisher, is already paying the price for the mixed reviews that are spreading on the web since its stock market value has fallen by almost 9% during the day.
