7 films and series that we would like to see adapted into video games

On this greyish day, what better than to indulge in a few daydreams and imagine which feature films or series would make good adaptations in video games. And be careful, we forget too much evidence such as superhero sagas. Here are 7 films and series that we would like to see adapted into video games, imagined by the editorial staff of JV during their lunch break.
A narrative horror game for Get Out
Imagine, a half-Quantic Dream half-Supermassive Games psychological horror game where your objective is to free yourself from the clutches of a family as racist as they are crazy. In Get Out, you play as the young and vigorous Chris invited to the family home of his girlfriend Rose with whom he makes perfect love. The foundations of this scenario are laid in a particularly tense atmosphere, until everything changes when you realize that you risk being used as livestock by step-dad and step-mom very soon. The next levels of the game then consist of smashing each psychopath/family member through several possibilities. Basically, we use the tension of a Heavy Rain and we add the QTE at risk of a The Quarry. In short, you get the idea. As a bonus, if Daniel Kaluuya could mocap his own in-game character, that would be great.
A life simulator for Friends
Now imagine The Sims, but with characters already pre-designed and immersed in the sets of Greenwich Village, the setting of the cult series Friends. You will be able to control the daily life of Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross. Between love stories, work and family, there are all the necessary ingredients to concoct a very good scripted sim. Because yes, suddenly, to stick as closely as possible to the spirit of the series, we would be entitled to scripted campaigns which would correspond to the episodes of the 10 seasons. And since there are 237 in all, that would be a hell of a lot of content to browse. And hey, we could even integrate mini-games based on Central Perk’s cafe and Rachel’s waitress job. Well, that’s the idea.
A stealth game for Without a Noise
There, for once, it came to us like a flash. What better for a stealth game than Without a Noise, frankly ? There are probably a slew of other examples of the genre, but this one is self-explanatory. We would embody a family forced to survive under the threat of creatures that attack at the slightest noise. We therefore imagine a tortuous level-design where dropping a vase could immediately lead to your death. We would also add a few moments of respite, just to breathe a little, in closed areas. The concept could also stick with the film Don’t Breathein which a gang of teenagers infiltrates the house of a blind man with fine hearing to rob him, without knowing that this is a particularly dangerous man.
An adventure RPG for Midsommar
Cults in video games can quickly become a very impressive source of terror, as we saw with Outlast 2. Midsummer has something particularly disturbing that could very well be exploited in a video game. We recall that the film is also signed by the very good Ari Aster who served us before that the excellent Heredity. Here, we would therefore be embarked on the splendid panoramas of a small Swedish village where you will meet a community with very strange habits that will quickly make you fall into horror. The principle is then very simple: you will be able to customize the stats and the personality of your hero within this beautiful world by choosing to adhere or name to the unusual customs of the locals and by facing a whole bunch of dilemmas which would include of course the death.
Un dating sim pour Love Actually
Well, we really wanted to include a dating sim in the lot and Love Actually seemed like a perfect candidate. It is all the same the ultimate romantic comedy of 2003, in which we closely follow the outcome of several relationships. Everything would take place in a fairly classic way where each potential couple would be entitled to their scenario made of dates to be successful by opting for the best dialogue choices. A visual novel composed of a handful of mini-games in short.
An FMV investigation game for Searching
You may already be familiar with Her Story, Sam Barlow’s FMV investigation game that tasks you, via the police search engine, with analyzing interrogation videos of a woman suspected of being responsible for the disappearance of her husband. For Searching, which carries the majority of its action through a computer screen, we would start on roughly the same principle. We embody a father who is investigating the disappearance of his 16-year-old teenager. As the official investigation gives nothing, the hero conducts his own research on his side, in particular by searching his daughter’s social networks. This could lead to a short and interesting experience, doable with friends.
A narrative investigation game for Knives Out
What could be better than a good “whodunit” (“who made it?”) for a video game adaptation? In the genre, we thought of At Knives Out released in 2019. The pitch is as follows: Harlan Thrombey is found dead in his large home on the evening of his 85th birthday. Detective Benoit Blanc is hired to elucidate the case and find the culprit among the family members and small staff. To repeat the experience, we could do everything to resume the detective embodied by Daniel Craig and transpose it into a new case just as exciting. Success assured.
