Apple blocked the update of the popular cryptocurrency wallet Coinbase Wallet in the App Store, demanding the removal of the ability to send NFT through the application – this transaction in the blockchain is accompanied by a commission, which the iPhone manufacturer regarded as an in-app purchase. And for all in-app purchases, Apple charges a commission.

App Store moderators have rejected the Coinbase Wallet update, stating that “the gas fee required to send NFTs must be made as an in-app purchase.” The developers of the application compared this initiative with Apple’s desire to charge a commission for every email sent over the Internet: in their opinion, this time the company demanded the impossible, because the payment system for purchases in the application does not natively support cryptocurrency.
Coinbase Wallet developers say that Apple has refused to approve the upgrade until the NFT sending feature is turned off — tokens cannot be transferred to other users, including gifts to loved ones. According to the creators of the client, the company pursues a policy of protecting profits through “developer innovation in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.” The Coinbase Wallet team continues to hope this is some kind of mistake and invites Apple to discuss the issue publicly on Twitter.
