On Sunday, December 4, in Doha, at the Al-Tumama Stadium, with a capacity of 44,400 spectators, the 1/8 final match of the 2022 World Cup will take place, in which the teams of France and Poland will meet. The starting whistle will sound at 17:00 Kyiv time.
France
Didier Deschamps’ team is known to be the reigning world champion. She reached the top of the world in 2018, winning the world championship, which took place in the Moscow swamps. It would not be superfluous to recall that 4 years ago, at the first stage of the playoffs, the French met with the Argentine team and achieved victory in a rather effective shootout – 4:3.
Today, in Qatar, the French team confidently passed the group stage. She won group D with 6 points in three matches. In the first match of the 2022 World Cup, the French achieved a major strong-willed victory over Australia – 4: 1, after which they dealt with Denmark – 2: 1.
Already in the status of an early holder of a ticket to the 1/8 finals, the French entered the game of the 3rd round with Tunisia and were somewhat shocked, having suffered a defeat with a score of 0:1. The only explanation for the failure in the match with the Africans can only be the fact that the head coach of France, Didier Deschamps, made certain personnel changes, allowing some players not from the team to play.
Poland
The Polish national team cannot boast of a convincing performance in the group of the current World Cup, which, however, did not prevent it from being among the participants in the first stage of the knockout round. She took second place in Quartet C, behind only the team of Argentina.
In three matches, the Poles scored 4 points. They started with a 0-0 draw against Mexico and then beat Saudi Arabia 2-0. The tournament fate of Robert Lewandowski and Co. was decided in the game with Argentina in the 3rd round, as well as in the parallel match between Saudi Arabia and Mexico. The Polish team lost to the Argentinean team 0:2, and the Mexicans, also leading 2:0, managed to miss the curtain and won in the end with a score of 2:1.
As a result, Argentina won group C with six points, Poland and Mexico each got 4, but the Poles had better additional indicators (goal difference 2:2 against 2:3 for Mexico).
