While the announcement of “Portal 3” is still pending and Valve gives no indication that the title could be tackled in the foreseeable future, author Erik Wolpaw is one step further.
Even though Valve hasn’t been able to bring itself to resume development of the “Portal” series with a third part, series author Erik Wolpaw is thinking about how the story could continue. He already has an idea of how a “Portal 3” he penned would begin.
„Jay [Pinkerton, Co-Autor von Portal 2] and I have an idea that we think is pretty genius overall,” Wolpaw told DidYouKnowGaming. “We haven’t worked out a script or any details yet. But we have a kind of starting point that we really like.”
No pitch process at Valve
Wolpaw and Pinkerton’s ideas are one thing. Valve must also have an interest in reviving the series. But there hasn’t been a pitching process or anything like that yet.
“Having an idea is very different than committing to make a game. It’s not unknown, but there’s also no formal pitch process at Valve. It’s always kind of a grassroots campaign, I guess,” said Wolpaw, who believes that Valve’s staff is constantly getting sucked into other things and as a result hardly has time for a pitch.
Later in the interview, he joked about the number “3” being a bit of a hurdle in the case of popular Valve games: “It’s almost like the numbering system is working against us. Because we did Half-Life 2 and then kind of like a 3, but it was an episode. So maybe it was just luck.”
But not only players and the authors want a sequel to “Portal”. GlaDOS voice actress Ellen McLain also recently spoke up and talked about a third part.
