Will the manga-inspired film Saint Seiya be even more traumatic for fans than the terrifying Dragon Ball Evolution? The new Knights of the Zodiac trailer suggests the worst…
Knights of the Zodiac: a scary name…
It is always with great trepidation that we share with you the evolution of the Knights of the Zodiac live-action project. A perilous initiative that we can’t help but put into perspective with a certain Dragon Ball Evolution whose threatening shadow continues to hang over manga/anime adaptations for the cinema. It must be said that, in the case of Saint Seiya, fans must already recover from the latest 3D animated version, Knights of the Zodiac, first discovered on Netflix and then picked up by Crunchyroll, which has just announced that a third season was indeed confirmed even though it completely distorts the original anime. But with this live-action expected next year at the cinema, it’s a new milestone that we will have to get ready to cross in amazementbecause the latest trailer is far from reassuring.
Too much adaptation for the Saint Seiya manga?
Already last July, we informed you of our fears regarding the live adaptation project of the Saint Seiya license which had taken advantage of the San Diego Comic-Con to share with the world some sequences illustrating the backstage of its filming. Fans then began to dissect each image to demonstrate how far this Knights of the Zodiac film was from the original work imagined by mangaka Masami Kurumada. Beyond the fact that we learned that the producers Toei Animation and Sony Pictures aimed to launch no less than 6 feature films around the license, the presence of renowned actors like Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings) or Mark Dacascos (Crying Freeman) was not enough to reassure us. Because the live-action film Knights of the Zodiac has not yet convinced many of its legitimacy.

The first official trailer of Knights of the Zodiac had even had the opposite effect by demonstrating how far it was moving away from the spirit of the initial manga, of which only the first animated series had been able to restore the force. Today, the finding is likely to be even harsher for the fans with a new, more substantial trailer (to be seen above in autoplay), which seems a thousand miles from the Saint Seiya that we all know…
When street orphan Seiya, in search of his kidnapped sister, unwittingly gains access to hidden powers, he discovers he may be the only person alive capable of protecting a reincarnated goddess, sent to watch over on humanity. Can he leave his past behind and embrace his destiny to become a Knight of the Zodiac?
Expected in cinemas sometime next year, Knights of the Zodiac will therefore try to convince us of the need to carry the myth in the cursed format of live-action. It remains to be seen whether the passion of the actors involved in this crazy project will be enough to ignite the cosmos of Knights of the Zodiac so that the film reaches the seventh sense… or absolute zero.
The Saint Seiya live-action adaptation titled Knights of the Zodiac is expected in theaters sometime in 2023.
