The supply of natural gas through the relevant pipelines from Russia to Europe is now very difficult or even impossible due to damage to them as a result of acts of international terrorism, so the EU countries dodge as best they can, including buying Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). The fact that this year the EU countries and the UK purchased a record amount of Russian LNG – 21% more than last year – reports Handelsblatt, and translates Kommersant.
According to the publication, ICIS conducted a study from which it turned out that currently 13% of all LNG imported by Europe comes from Russia, while the volume of purchases is growing rapidly. As you might guess, this is due to the onset of cold weather and the general difficult situation with the usual energy resources in the EU.
According to the information of the publication, Russian LNG is purchased by European countries at a significantly higher price than pipeline gas of the same volume, if it continued to flow to Europe in sufficient quantities. It is reported that in the eleven months of this year, Russia could earn about 27 billion euros from the sale of LNG to Europe.
