The fact is that the key in the inventory was marked “common item” – this led to comic speculation by fans about how “common” this key was in the context of the relationship of the characters.
In the next-gen version of the game, the key falls into the “Relic Items” category, which is superior to regular items and inferior in value only to set items. The change was confirmed by CD Projekt Red itself.
