In an interview with Eurogamer, those responsible at CD Projekt looked back on the catastrophic console launch of “Cyberpunk 2077”. As the Polish studio admitted, this led, among other things, to the fact that the multiplayer plans had to be canceled.
Shortly after the role-playing game was released in December 2020, it became apparent that “Cyberpunk 2077” was struggling with numerous problems and bugs on the old consoles.

“We really had to look at what the priorities for cyberpunk [nach dem Start] were,” said Weber, who was recently confirmed as narrative director for the new The Witcher game, currently in development under the codename Polaris. “The priority was for the main experience to run in a really good state for people. And essentially, the change in priorities meant that other R&D projects had to be shelved.”
Weber continues: “With Cyberpunk 2077, we wanted to do a lot of things at the same time. So we just had to really focus and say, ‘Okay, what’s the important part? Yes, we’re going to do this part really well.'” The multiplayer plans for the “Cyberpunk” series aren’t completely off the table, by the way, as CD Projekt pointed out a few months ago that multiplayer components will be included in upcoming projects by the studio play an important role will.
