Gwent: The Witcher Card Game: Support for the game is nearing end

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game has been officially out for around five years now, but it looks like CD Projekt RED is looking to divert its resources in other directions.

CD Projekt RED is apparently moving things around. No wonder given the many upcoming projects such as the Cyberpunk expansion, the new Witcher trilogy and The Witcher remake. Of course, this has an impact and as the studio has now announced, support for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will be discontinued at the end of 2024 and the developers will be redistributed to other projects.

However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t expect anything new in the next few months or that the game will even be disconnected. Gwent will continue to receive new expansions in the coming year. 72 new maps are planned to be released as part of three expansions in April, July and September 2023. Two more esports tournaments are also planned, as well as monthly balancing adjustments.

The last 7 years with @PlayGwent were the best years of my professional career. I’ve met so many amazing people and made so many unforgettable friendships. I’ll always look back at this time with a huge smile. Let’s make 2023 as epic as possible! Love you all! ❤️

Starting in 2024, the game will transition to a community-centric approach, referred to internally as Project Gwentfinity. As part of Project Gwentfinity, the game will see a seasonal progression system, as well as a new balancing feature that will allow the community to vote on balancing changes. However, according to CD Projekt Red, there will be restrictions to prevent tampering and “game-destroying” changes.

So even if CD Projekt RED pulls staff, the game will definitely continue. And if that’s not enough for you, you can still play the more PvE-focused Gwent: Rogue Mage with a good 30 hours of gameplay.
