Tough times are upon Jak and his buddies. Because the once celebrated hero is sent into the desert with his followers. However, the shared suffering proves to be too heavy a burden: Jak and his companions Daxter and the parrot monkey lose the fight against the blazing sun and faint. Hardly awakened from the mental derangement, the long-eared dog finds himself in the middle of a hopping tutorial. Here the jumping genius rediscovers the basic knowledge of his skills. Mind you: In the course of the gigantic adventure, the sparse repertoire of hopping variants and jumping attacks expands in such a way that the protagonist often peeks mischievously into the explanation of the controls.

The first use of weapons is also part of the tutorial visit. The incredible number of exclusive guns allows Jak various attack tactics. In your collection you will find a machine gun that spits wildly firing mini-probes, a homing laser weapon or the ‘make-the-ground-and-enemies-tremble’ thunder gun. The guns are divided into four color segments. Jak easily selects the argument amplifiers with the directional pad. But first you have to make friends with the boss of the desert. You have a variety of tasks to do right from the start: while your cuddly toy Daxter makes funny staccato comments, you hop on kangaroo rat-eating dinosaurs, play curious mini-games and hunt bickering chinchilla mutts. But after the fun comes the work: So Jak hops with Daxter into versatile desert buggies: With the latter you curve in fast-paced jet races for the crown of victory, hop with the leaping frog mobile to remote ruins, shoot machine gun salvos at the skin of mighty giant dinosaurs or rescue friendly ones desert dwellers from certain death.

Only later in the game do you use the jump repertoire learned in the tutorial. Then hopping passages with millimeter precision will make your forehead sweat. Jump’n’Run connoisseurs look forward to Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts-double jumps, super mario 64-stomp attacks, Prince of Persia-Swing inserts and Alex Kidd-Punch attacks. However, our hero can do more than imitate bouncy giants. Jak’s dark and light Eco powers are particularly beneficial. The dark force transforms the sensitive action hero into the Legacy of Kain-Raziel Berserker. Your hero shreds bizarre creatures with “Freddy Krueger” claws or uses the all-destroying Smartbomb.

The pure opposite of the impetuous, dark Jak is the illuminated Jak. This solves simple ‘destroy-seven-enemies-in-one-shot’ puzzles in a tactically clever manner and has advice, especially for almost unsolvable jumps: Mr. Flareball freezes time without further ado on – this causes rapidly rotating platforms to move in slow motion and in the case of deadly knife spears you will find the gap thanks to the time stop. The angel shape also refills the scratched life bar. Unfortunately, all these magic abilities cost you magical energy – so diligently collect dark and light eco-stones (the same applies to weapon ammunition). A magic stone also makes Jak invisible – you can easily avoid enemy superiority.

In the third adventure, the cute cuddly toy Daxter not only makes himself comfortable on Jak’s shoulders. During flight interludes (checks the camera positioned directly behind Daxter), the gossip shoots enemy space gliders away, rides escaped lizards back into their enclosures or jumps up Aladdin-Linen cloths to unimagined heights. From time to time, the coolest animal since Gizmo also shimmy over lava lakes spitting fireballs or darts down the water slide at dizzying heights. Later, the cuddly good-for-nothing even squats on a rocket or plasters in it Pac-Man-Minigame Eco bricks. The Wuschelpeter shines with wit and clumsy behavior.

It can happen so quickly: The people who demonized you yesterday need the help of the dream duo again. Because you don’t hold grudges, you save your hometown in a battle worthy of Star Wars. Wrecks giant robots with their ejected bombs via MegaMan– Kick a soccer ball or glide across the water on the “Back to the Future 2” hoverboard. Speaking of gliders: you will learn a number of tricks on the hoverboard. Grind over rusted pipes, dig over jumps in proper style or inspire Daxter with a somersault – you can do it yourself Tony Hawk envious. But not only in the city, but also in caves, forests or organic-looking places you have to stand your yak. Particularly annoying disgusting packages are waiting for you here. Tick-like fungi attach themselves to your vehicle and poisonous plants silently drain life energy. Of course, there are also particularly large chunks lurking for the heroes. You need a clear head for the intermediate and end bosses: study the attack patterns and then strike – ”Karate Kid” style.

Collecting fever breaks out: over 600 secrets are waiting for you. Whether it’s 3D models, infinitely dark eco-power, more ammo, or even a Ratchet & Clank-Weapons course can be unlocked. For this you collect golden eggs or red eco-stones. The team of heroes will find the latter in well-hidden places or get hold of them in mini-games.

Raphael Fiore says: Who are you really, Jak? Your transformation from pure hopping expert to multifunctional action professional expands even more in the third part. But unlike the ambiguous second, the third adventure far surpasses its predecessors. Despite some tough missions remains like 3 always fair – the hero’s death always has to do with one’s own incompetence and not with choppy controls or an unfair camera perspective. After Jak’s death, you usually get on at the same place – thanks to extremely fair reset points, there is no frustration. By the way, don’t be put off by the racing-oriented start: Extremely varied missions await the coolest hero duo in video game history – jumping inserts with millimeter precision, neat flight and shooting sequences as well as simple puzzles come together. The versatile level design, which ranges from dark cave scenarios to brightly colored alien breeding grounds, and the creative creaks and great (hoverboard) extras are convincing. A five-star hopper in which only notorious moaners complain about subtle technical errors.

Matthew Schmid says: Jak jumps, races, shoots and can do a lot more. If the predecessor left a bitter aftertaste thanks to numerous moments of frustration, everything is bigger, nicer and better in the third part of the comic duo. Whether you are in atmospheric insect worlds or picturesque forests, like 3 cuts a top figure technically and playfully. The tricky jumps in particular are addictive for Jump’n’Run fans: Thanks to the successful controls and a flawless camera, you’re always in control. In addition, the arsenal of weapons convinces with guns that are as useful as they are imaginative. In addition to the countless mini-games, the use of eco-energy provides variety: As a Raziel blend, it slaughters even more nicely.
