Who is Ramattra in Overwatch 2? What are Ramattra’s skills? Our impressions of Ramattra
Who is Ramattra in Overwatch 2?
The arrival of Ramattra on Overwatch 2 is not fortuitous. She is consistent with Zenyatta’s past, our omniac monk and above all master of Genji. In addition to adding gameplay that once again revolutionizes the way to play Overwatchthe latter adds depth to the history of the omnics, especially that of Zenyatta.
Zenyatta and Ramattra used to be like brothers. They were both monks in Shambali, an area of peace and philosophy. These two brothers had similar ideals, but each decided to go down different paths. While Zenyatta preferred to delve into the path of wisdom and peace, Ramattra cut all ties with Shambali and his monks to become a key member of Sector Zero, a pro-omniac extremist organization. Zenyatta almost died because of Ramattra’s actions and that’s how he understood that the coexistence between humans and omnics was no longer an option. Because yes, before being one of the founders of the Zero Sector, Ramattra wanted, just like Zenyatta, peace between humanity and machines, but nothing happened as planned.
We can quickly imagine that no more link can connect Zenyatta and Ramattra, especially following the events that took place in King’s Row during the Uprising. However, despite his differences of opinion, Ramattra seems to hold Zenyatta in esteem, the only being capable of truly understanding him. The developers are good at including a few lines of text that visualize the relationships between characters, so it’ll be interesting to see what Zenyatta and Ramattra have to say to each other once they’re on the same team.
What are Ramattra’s skills?
Ramattra is a tank character who benefits from a subtle mix between Sigma, Doomfist and Orisa, at least in version 1.0 on the first Overwatch of the name. In order for you to better understand, find Ramattra’s skills below:
Accelerator of the vacuum (form of omnic): Launches a flow of projectiles and makes it possible to create a barrier at the targeted place. This area slows opponents and pulls them down. Nemesis Form: You assume your Nemesis Form, which changes your attacks and grants you bonus armor. Pounding (Nemesis Form): Strikes forward and creates a wave of piercing energy with each hit and provides protection from frontal attacks. → This skill replaces the Void Accelerator. Ultimate ability: Annihilation: You adopt your nemesis form and create a cloud of energy around you. This cloud is unleashed on nearby opponents, dealing damage to them. Its duration is paused as long as it deals damage.
As you can see, Ramattra is the first hero who adopts two very distinct forms. One (omniac) will be much more distant and defensive, while the other (nemesis) will be melee and offensive.
Our impressions of Ramattra
Ramattra is a character that really revolutionizes the tank role ; you will be able to juggle between its two forms to suit the different situations imposed by your opponents. If you prefer to be defensive, you will have to prioritize its omnic form, on the other hand, if you want to be offensive, you will have to bet much more on its nemesis form. On paper, this game mechanic appears to be very strong, but may well be the character’s biggest weakness. Wanting to create a character that is far too versatile, the latter will not be able to pull out of the game every time ; this is our biggest fear.
For the very first time, this hero will include an ultimate ability with an almost unlimited duration, because as it says in its description: its duration is paused as long as it inflicts damage. But fear not, because his skill does not last more than 4 seconds if there is no opponent in his area. Thus, opponents can easily escape, especially if they have a Lucio in their team.
Ramattra’s ultimate ability doesn’t deal heavy damage to enemies around it, instead it just eats away at health until exhausted. Thus, his ultimate ability will not be able to kill an opponent in the blink of an eye. We think Ramattra will be really interesting for capture cards like Iliosbut he won’t be able to tell the difference on the Advanced cards as it will be so easy to run away.
It will be necessary to show great dexterity with the forms to engage and the different situations involved in playing tank. Ramattra players will need to protect their allies, while making sure to fend off opponents with the nemesis form. This will not be a very simple exercise.
During our different games with Ramattra, the latter, however, did not seem so strong to us, at least in defense. His shield doesn’t stay on the battlefield for long and can’t be moved as you see fit. It is placed like the old shield of Orisa and it will be necessary to wait 15 seconds before being able to put another one back. Regarding his nemesis-shaped block, the latter will block 75% of damage received, but the hero’s movement speed will be reduced by half, so he will not be able to take all the hits. Reinhardt’s Shield, D.Va’s Matrix and even Orisa’s Javelin Spin seem to be much more interesting compared to Ramattra’s defensive skills.
To put it simply, in Nemesis form, Ramattra will not be able to really support his team, he will be a free neutron who will seek out opponents in close combat like Doomfist, but less mobile. In omnic form, he will be a real defender, able to block damage thanks to his shield, but will be very quickly limited by the cooldown of abilities.
