According to GamesIndustry.biz’ Christopher Dring, it’s still unclear which console will emerge as the most successful hardware of 2022 in the UK. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch are currently just 20,000 units apart.
In a recent tweet, Christopher Dring from GamesIndustry.biz addressed the sales figures for the current consoles on the British market.
Without giving specific numbers, Dring pointed out that it is currently still unclear which of the platforms will emerge as the best-selling console in Great Britain in 2022. The bottom line is that the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch are just 20,000 units apart. PS5 has never been ahead of the curve. December and the rest of the Christmas business will show whether it will stay that way.
“Which console will win in the UK in 2022 will come down to December. The PS5 currently leads. However, only 20,000 units separate the three main platforms. I can’t say,” Dring said.
Switch and the Xbox Series S dominated the Black Friday business
Driven by various Black Friday offers, around 372,000 consoles were sold in the UK in November 2022 – an impressive 113 percent increase on the previous month. Compared to November 2021, however, console sales fell slightly. After months in third place, the Switch gained 175 percent in November 2022, topping the UK hardware chart.
Followed by Xbox Series consoles, which benefited primarily from strong Xbox Series S Black Friday sales. The little sister of the Xbox Series X was temporarily reduced in price by 60 pounds for Black Friday and accounted for almost 40 percent of all consoles sold on the island during Black Friday week.
The PlayStation 5 posted a 71% increase in sales in November 2022 and found itself at number three in the UK hardware charts. The God of War: Ragnarök bundle was the most popular PS5 console, accounting for almost 38 percent of all PS5 systems sold in November.
