Today, we dig into the Netflix catalog to highlight a film that has gone somewhat unnoticed, which nevertheless has something to appeal to more than one spectator. Fans of martial arts, breathtaking chases and above all bloody confrontations, get ready to discover or rediscover a little nugget that comes straight from Indonesia.
Sensitive souls refrain
Particularly complete, the Netflix catalog is full of unsuspected nuggets, which land and seduce viewers who have taken the time to devote themselves to it, but who unfortunately do not necessarily benefit from the same promotional campaign of the platform’s biggest productions. VSThis is the case of The Night Comes for Us, an American-Indonesian action film that has serious assets to seduce fans of the genre, and more.
“After sparing the life of a young woman in a massacre, an elite Triad assassin finds himself the target of murderous gangsters.” The synopsis, quite classic, is above all an excuse to stage crazy fights, both very well choreographed, but also particularly bloody. Weapons, fire, machete or saw… The Night Comes For Us gives pride of place to violent killings. A film not to put in everyone’s hands, but which will delight a good number of fans of supercharged action films, all the more so when one is interested in the names that appear in the credits.
Behind The Night Comes For Us, we find some of the people involved in The Raid, a film released in 2011 which caused a stir at the time thanks to its dantesque action sequences and no downtime. For example, actors Joe Taslim et Iko Uwais, already present on The Raid, both take on the main roles here. The realization is occupied by Timo Tjahjantoknown for his “Mo Brothers” duo formed with Kimo Stamboel, who has signed several big Indonesian productions in recent years: Headshot, Macabre and Killers.
Netflix: 12 films banned for those under 18
What is it worth?
Despite a relative success upon its release, The Night Comes For Us is now one of the films abandoned by Netflix. However, the title enjoys mostly positive reviews, whether for the press or the public. For critics, The Night Comes For Us is a real “bloody rollercoaster that tests the limits of the most fragile spectators. A very good punch packed with action and stylized violence”.
In detail, The Night Comes For Us reached 91% for critics on RottenTomatoes and 83% for viewers. On Metacriticthe film gets a rating of 69/100 for the press and 7,3/10 for the public. In France, viewers who saw what The Night Comes For Us had in their stomachs gave it the rating of 3.3/5 on AlloCiné and 6.2/10 on SensCritique. Mostly positive, even very positive in some cases. A nugget not to be missed, available now on Netflix.
