Switzerland head coach Murat Yakin commented on the 1:6 loss to Portugal in the 1/8 finals of the 2022 World Cup:
“Of course, it’s hard to lose, we are sad both from the result and from how we played. And from the fact that some players, having had colds, still could not reach their maximum – Elvedi, Sher, Widmer. Moreover, for this very reason, we could not use all the players.
And although I have no complaints about our running work, it was not enough – the opponent was better prepared than us. Of course, we wanted to make history by reaching the quarter-finals for the first time, we played beautiful football in the group stage, but we faced a stronger opponent.”
