Neat finishes and a beautiful OLED screen
Like its elders and the other models of the new range of Apple smartphones launched in September, the iPhone 14 benefits from neat finishes as the brand knows how to do. The design of this reference will not however be revolutionary compared to the previous generation: it will always adopt the same rectangular format, the same rounded edges in brushed aluminum and the same glass back, but this is not necessarily a bad point. , since the handling will be easy.
The screen of the iPhone 14 is not to be outdone: here we will be entitled to a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel, which offers good brightness and infinite contrasts. Only downside: the iPhone 14 does not offer a 120 Hz refresh rate, a feature reserved for the most premium of the range. The rate here is blocked at 60 Hz. Note also that the TrueTone mode, which automatically adapts the brightness and colorimetry to the light conditions around you, will be there.
A little power boost
Contrary to its habit, Apple has chosen not to opt for a new chip in order to propel its iPhone 14. The latter is thus powered by the A15 Bionic chip, as was the case for the iPhone 13 Pro, while the 14 Pro and the 14 Pro Max embed the SoC A16. The iPhone 14 still benefits from a slight power gain compared to the previous model, but without much change. However, the chip will allow you to run any application, such as demanding games, with perfect fluidity.
In terms of duration of use, the Californian company has bet on a more interesting autonomy than on its previous models. The iPhone 14 is thus able to endure two days of use without flinching. Despite this great endurance, we will still regret its slow charge.
A better photo module
One of the main improvements made by the iPhone 14 compared to the iPhone 13 is in the photo part. On this new model, we thus find a stabilized main sensor of 12 megapixels with photosites of 1.9 μm and a lens opening at f / 1.5. According to Apple, this makes night mode twice as fast and improves low-light performance by 49%. The selfie camera has also been corrected and now includes autofocus. Overall, the iPhone 14 does well in decent conditions and manages to offer a rather effective night mode. On the other hand, as soon as it is put in difficulty, such as in portrait mode, in night selfie or even in backlight, the result is unfortunately less convincing.
