Netflix has released the trailer for Pale Blue Eye, a dark detective drama starring Christian Bale. At the center of the story are the mysterious murders at the United States Military Academy in 1830, which are investigated by an army veteran, August Landor, played by Bale, and a young Edgar Allan Poe cadet, played by Harry Melling.
The trailer sheds light on the iconic nature of the murders. The goal of the protagonist is to find a clue as quickly as possible, preventing more deaths.

The film, based on the Louis Bayard novel of the same name, was created by Scott Cooper, who wrote, directed and produced. The film will be Bale and Cooper’s third collaboration after Out of the Hell and Foes. Netflix bought the rights to the story for $55 million from European rights holders.
In addition to Bale and Melling, the film starred Gillian Anderson, Robert Duvall, Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Toby Jones (First Cow), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist), Harry Lawty (Industry), Simon McBurney ( “Carnival Row”) and Timothy Spall (“Mr. Turner”), Fred Hechinger (Fear Street trilogy), Hadley Robinson (“Moxie”), Joey Brooks (“Molly’s Game”), Brennan Keel Cooke (“The Encounter”) , Gideon Glick (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Matt Helm (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”), Stephen Mayer (“The Plot Against America”) and Charlie Tahan (“The Ozarks”).
Pale Blue Eye is funded and produced by Cross Creek. Bale also co-produced, along with John Lesher of Grisbi Productions and Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek. Tracey Landon and Dylan Weathered of Grisbi serve as executive producers.
The film will open in limited theaters on December 23, and will premiere on Netflix on January 6, 2023.
