Biathlete of the German national team Denise Herrmann-Wick commented on the victory in the sprint at the second stage of the World Cup in Austrian Hochfilzen.
“I am very pleased with my performance. It was a real biathlon. It was not easy on the track today – in some areas the snow had an ice crust. It was important to keep a high speed, but act calmly and carefully.
I do not always succeed, which was especially noticeable last year, when due to too high speed and emotionality, I repeatedly had problems on the shooting range.
But today everything worked out – yesterday’s training went well, I got the necessary confidence for high-quality work on fire and was able to combine successful shooting today with a high pace on the track. The feeling on the last lap after the clean work on the lines was incredible.
On the approach to the last shooting, I heard the announcer at the stadium say that the main contenders for the podium had already made mistakes. I’m glad that I managed to close all the targets, because we have a not entirely happy shooting history with Hochfilzen.
Today I worked quickly and rhythmically, the race was very successful. It was a good day, but hopefully I can improve further – especially in terms of speed on the track,” Herrmann-Wik said.
