Former Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman will be appointed as the new head coach of the Netherlands national team. He will take over in January 2023 and replace Louis van Gaal, who will not be renewed following the team’s quarter-final elimination from the 2022 World Cup.
Koeman’s contract will be valid until the end of the next world championship in 2026.
59-year-old Koeman played for the Netherlands national team as a player for 11 years and became the European champion in its composition. He has already worked as a national team coach from 2018 to 2020. Under his leadership, the team won 11 wins, 5 draws and 4 losses in 20 matches, reached the final part of the European Championship 2020, where they reached the 1/8 finals of the playoffs, and also became the finalists of the League of Nations.
At the club level, Koeman led the Spanish “Barcelona” and “Valencia”, the English “Southampton” and “Everton”, the Portuguese “Benfica”, the Dutch Ajax, PSV, AZ and Vitesse.
Note that back in April 2022, there was information that Koeman would replace van Gaal as head coach of the Netherlands national team after the World Cup in Qatar.
