The Souls-like Lords of the Fallen from 2014 is known to be getting a sequel under the somewhat strange title The Lords of the Fallen. Much more than that was not known until now. Gameplay from the game, which uses the next-gen power of Unreal Engine 5, was shown for the first time at the Game Awards.
The predecessor Lords of the Fallen (our test) appeared in 2014 as one of the first Souls-likes that was not developed by genre creators From Software itself. At that time, the fans were still thirsty for every new Souls fodder, which is why the game was forgiven for some quirks. It was also the first game of its kind for the then new console generation of PS4 and Xbox One. Lords of the Fallen was developed by the Frankfurt studio Deck13, which then increasingly established itself in the genre with The Surge 1 and 2, but the successor to one had to hand over to another developer and is currently working on Atlas Fallen.
The Lords of the Fallen is now being developed by the Spanish studio Hexworks, which was founded in 2020 and has been working on the game ever since with 75 employees. Even if the missing two in the name and the preceding article suggest otherwise, this is not a reboot, but a successor that plays 1,000 years after the predecessor. So long enough that the stories of the two no longer have anything to do with each other that the game is confusingly officially called a reboot by publisher CI Games. However.
For The Lords of the Fallen, the developers promise a journey to the border between the realm of the dead and the living. Both worlds are seamlessly interwoven and house shortcuts, NPCs, bosses and just about everything that once defined Dark Souls as a genre. This time, the game world should be five times larger than in the predecessor. There will also be the typical Souls multiplayer mode.

The first gameplay trailer gives a clear impression that The Lords of the Fallen was also strongly inspired by the great role model and especially Dark Souls III in the design of its dark fantasy vision. CI Games swooped in and had it voiced by actress Milly Alcock, who plays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in Game of Thrones spin-off House of Dragons. The Lord of the Fallen will be released in 2023 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
