The year 2022 pleased the players with very good free projects, however, among which not everyone sunk into the heart for a long time. 2023 also promises to be fertile for games, and in a variety of genres, from racing arcades to large-scale MMORPGs.
In this article, we have compiled for you the top 10 potentially best free multiplayer games that will be released in 2023.
EVERCORE Heroes
Our top is opened by a rather interesting project from the Vela Games studio, which includes former employees of Riot Games and Electronic Arts. It’s about the cooperative Action RPG EVERCORE Heroes, which is a session PvE game with MOBA elements, where four players team up with each other and go on various missions. There are several heroes with unique features to choose from, upgraded during the match. You will have to fight in a variety of conditions, from cold forests and snowy peaks to deep jungles and lush fantasy gardens.
The game is going through many closed tests, and already in 2023 it plans to release for free for the PC platform.
HAWKED
In November 2022, UPWAKE.ME announced a new third-person multiplayer shooter titled HAWKED. Players will have to unite in a squad in order to go explore the island of X to collect treasures. Users will be given the opportunity for detailed customization of the hero, by selecting equipment and modifiable skills. The project combines elements of PvP and PvE, so you will meet both players and monsters on the map. Apparently, we are waiting for another variation of Escape from Tarkov, but more arcade.
The game is worth waiting for in 2023 in the early access stage. HAWKED will be released on PC and consoles, and will initially only be available to owners of Renegades packs. After the official release, the game will be free for everyone.
Overkill
The next member of our top was a game from Nexon called Overkill. The project is a multiplayer Action RPG side-scroller and, as the authors themselves say, is a “new generation Dungeon Fighter”. This statement is not without reason, because Overkill is designed to expand the universe of the game Dungeon Fighter Online, which has been afloat for more than 17 years. By the way, the project is being developed on the Unreal Engine 4.
In Overkill, players will go on a journey alone or with a group, where they will meet many already familiar characters, go down into dangerous dungeons and, of course, be able to get a huge amount of the most diverse loot. The project is developed exclusively for PC.
Infinity Nikki
In early December 2022, a cute open-world adventure called Infinity Nikki was announced. The Chinese studio Papergames is responsible for the development of the project, and Kentaro Tominaga, a former Nintendo employee who participated in the development of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, acts as a producer.
In Infinity Nikki, adventurers will join Nikki and Momo in a vast fantasy world that is free to explore. From the trailer, you can pay attention to the amazing bright graphics and very smooth animations, which is important.
The project is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, as well as mobile devices running iOS and Android.
The Division Heartland
Part of the gaming community is very skeptical about works from Ubisoft, and the new project was no exception. The actions of The Division Heartland, as the name suggests, takes place in the notorious universe of The Division. Despite this, the game is neither a prehistory nor a continuation of the first and second parts.
In the new The Division Heartland, players will travel to a fictional rural settlement in Central America, where a variety of PvP and PvE activities await them. The most important thing is that the project is free and multi-user, which is why it got into our top.
The Division Heartland is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The game goes through numerous tests. It is likely that the new “Division” can be expected in 2023.
Warhaven
Multiplayer medieval action games are always of interest to a considerable number of players, but not every one of them stays afloat for a long time. In 2023, lovers of sharp blades, magic and dynamic battles will see a new action game called Warhaven. Players will have access to a wide variety of modes, including a large-scale one in the 16 by 16 format. The gameplay is reminiscent of For Honor, but with an admixture of magic and other bright skills, such as throwing opponents into the air, attacks with fireballs, and much more.
Warhaven is being developed by a studio from South Korea, but outwardly the game does not look like a typical “Korean” at all. By the way, developers often run playtests, so anyone can try it out before the release.
Disney Speedstorm
Among the action games in our top, there was also a racing arcade game called Disney Speedstorm. Has everyone heard of Mario Kart? So Gameloft decided to make its own races with blackjack and famous Disney characters: Mickey Mouse, Captain Jack Sparrow, Sally from Monsters Inc. and others.
The essence of the game is exactly the same as in other analogues of Mario Kart, where you need to choose a hero and his vehicle, and then go to competitions alone or against other players in the most diverse and colorful locations.
Disney Speedstorm will release in 2023 on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store, as well as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
Zenless Zone Zero
HoYoverse continues to develop top action games, one of which took third place in our top — Zenless Zone Zero. The project attracts players with its furious gameplay and decent graphics with bright effects, as well as smart well-designed waifu.
Zenless Zone Zero is a fast-paced Action RPG from the studio behind Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd. The action takes place in a post-apocalyptic futuristic metropolis known as New Eridu. Beings called Ethereals went to the world of people through portals, causing tremendous damage to the Earth and destroying most of humanity. A select group of survivors formed a bulwark to resist the invaders.
The game will be available on PC and smartphones.
Blue Protocol
The second place in our top is occupied by one of the most anticipated MMORPGs, which can already be called long-term construction. This, of course, is about the Blue Protocol. It’s worth noting right away that this is not at all a clone of Genshin Impact, as users often like to notice in the comments. The project was developed even before the advent of “Genshin” and plus everything is a full-fledged MMORPG, which is not the popular brainchild of HoYoverse. Here adventurers have to create their hero, choose a class and go in search of the coveted loot, exploring PvE content with other players. Yes, PvP will not be here.
Blue Protocol is a third-person MMORPG from Japanese developers Project Sky Blue, Bandai Namco Online, and publisher Amazon Games. The project is being developed on the Unreal Engine 4 and is made in a fantasy setting with anime style. The global version is due out in the second half of 2023 on PC via Steam, as well as for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Throne and Liberty
True fans of classic MMORPGs, especially those who have played the legendary Lineage II, are waiting for Throne and Liberty, formerly known as Project TL. Initially, the project was supposed to be released in the second half of 2022, but the release was postponed to the first half of 2023. Of course, part of the community is very skeptical about this game. And it’s not surprising, because lately we often hear a lot of promises from different MMO developers, but we get mediocrity. In the case of Throne and Liberty, we can expect a really worthy project.
NCSOFT promises classic gameplay with modern mechanics, open PvP, as it was in Lineage, large-scale sieges, raid boss battles and a ton of other PvE content. Gameplay trailers look amazing, where we are shown beautiful graphics, high-quality effects and battles with the above content.
One of the important things about Throne and Liberty for MMORPG fans is that the game is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S without a mobile version. Accordingly, the quality of development is not limited by adaptation to smartphones.
That concludes our top 10 potentially best free multiplayer games. As they say, there are never too many free games, but I want them to be of high quality. It remains to be hoped that the projects from our list will bring a lot of positive emotions into the lives of gamers.
Feel free to write in the comments what games you are waiting for, and add your own, which are not included in our top.
