12/15/2022 at 5:41 p.m. by Sara Petzold – After actor Henry Cavill gave up his role as Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher, he will now probably also be hanging up his cloak as Superman. Because contrary to previous announcements, there will be a new Superman film by James Gunn, but without Cavill in the lead role.
The excitement about actor Henry Cavill is not abating: first he announced his departure as the witcher Geralt von Rivia in the Netflix series The Witcher, now he surprisingly received a cancellation for the next Superman film. The latter will again be directed by James Gunn, but without Cavill in the lead role.
Cavill himself was surprised by the decision
Previously, Cavill justified his withdrawal from production of The Witcher because he wanted to focus on the next Superman film. However, fans and insiders rumored that disagreements between Cavill and the series’ writers over the script were the real reason for the actor’s departure from the series. The fact that Cavill is to be replaced by Chris Hemsworth caused great displeasure among viewers.
Meanwhile, Cavill was all the more surprised by the news that he would not be playing Superman again. In a He wrote a statement to his fans: “I’ve just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and there’s sad news. I won’t be returning as Superman after all. After the studio told me in October that I could announce my return ahead of the actual appointment, is This message isn’t easy for me, but that’s life. […] I respect that. James and Peter have to build a universe. I wish them and everyone involved the best of luck and success.”
For his part, James Gunn officially announced on Twitter that he is working on a new Superman film. He justified the fact that this will do without Cavill by saying that the story will revolve “about an earlier phase of Superman’s life”. So we may get to see a much younger Superman, which is why Cavill is not (or no longer) suitable for the role in the opinion of those responsible.
