The relationship system in Darkest Dungeon II has been overhauled. Furthermore, the early access phase will be extended and the release will be postponed.
Red Hook Studios has delivered a new update in Early Access and announced the timeframe for the PC release of Darkest Dungeon 2 to the second quarter of 2023.
Recently, the Darkest Dungeon 2 developer released The Void Between Us update to the Epic Game Store, where the game is in Early Access. With this, relationships and affinity have been reworked.
In a wrap-up message, the developers address fans: “As many of you have already suspected, we will be taking a little more time to finalize the remaining additions and improvements to DDII. We’re revising our PC 1.0 release date to Q2 next year – a little more wiggle room will make for a much better game. We are fortunate to have the resources to invest in this extra effort. We will announce an exact date in the new year.
First up in January, we’ll be rolling out the new relationship system for the main branch on EGS! Future updates will bring exciting changes to driving behavior, playable heroes and more. We look forward to making Darkest Dungeon II a truly outstanding experience, and we want to thank our community for the great feedback and support throughout our Early Access trip.”
The sequel to the RPG Darkest Dungeon has been in the works at Red Hook Studios since 2019. After the PC release, console versions will follow. It remains to be seen how long this project will take.
