Fans of Blizzard’s hero shooter with a passion for competitive events will be happy to hear the news of the return of the Overwatch World Cup. In the 2023 edition of the eSport show, all players will be able to test themselves in the renewed multiplayer framework offered by the launch of Ovrewatch 2.
A three years since the last Overwatch World Cupin 2023 the biggest competition of Blizzard’s hero shooter will therefore return and the Irvine team confirms it with a message shared on the official website of the multiplayer shooter, complete with indications on the regulation, on how to access the tests and on the timing of the different phases of the eSport show.
According to the lineup announced by Blizzard, in January the US company will reveal the 36 countries and regions that will compete for victory in the Overwatch World Cup 2023, at the same time as the opening of applications for the Competition Committees responsible for organizing the auditions in each country.
Among the novelties of the 2023 edition of the Overwatch eSport event there will also be the introduction of a new system for competing for a place in the team through an open format tournament: the World Cup Trial. The challenges associated with this special tournament will have take place in February and will allow the winners to obtain a direct place for their team’s tryouts. However, it will still be possible to register regular tryouts to be held in Marchprovided you have a competitive rank of Diamond or higher.
In addition, in 2023 Blizzard will offer challenges and rewards for anyone who helps celebrate the return of the Overwatch World Cup: the qualifiers will begin in June, at the end of the path that will lead to the finalization of the teams of the different countries. The grand finale of the Overwatch 2 World Cup 2023 will take place in the fall, with 16 teams that will compete in a LAN environment to determine the new World Cup champions following the halt of competitions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
