Hideo Kojima has made a name for himself with numerous cinematic video games over the past two decades. The length of some cutscenes or one or the other wacky sequence always provided a lot of topics for conversation. But now a Kojima game will not only provide a topic for discussion with cinematics, but will soon also be represented on the big screen. Finally, it was officially announced that Death Stranding would be filmed. Hideo Kojima is collaborating with producer Alex Lebovici and Hammestone Studios.
Who is producing the Death Stranding film?
In recent years, Lebovici has produced films such as “Barbarian”, “Padre Pio” and “Bill and Ted Save the Universe”. His portfolio also includes the production of an Uncharted fan film. “I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Hammerstone,” Kojima said in a statement to Deadline. “This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I look forward to working with them to bring Death Stranding to the big screen.”
Alex Lebovici is also looking forward to the opportunity and is honored in his statement to work with Kojima: “Unlike other big-budget video game adaptations, this one is going to be much more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine the idea of what a video game adaptation can be when given creative and artistic freedom to redefine it. This film will be an authentic Hideo Kojima production.”
Hammerstone is financing the project, while Kojima and Lebovici are producing the film together. Also on board is Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar as Executive Producers. In terms of plot, practically nothing is known about the film, apart from the fact that we are to be confronted with new characters and facets of the Death Stranding universe. It is also not known who will sit in the director’s chair for the adaptation.
