Is your Windows 11 computer not recognizing the USB device you just plugged in and showing it as unknown? If yes, then you are not alone in this. Many users have reported seeing this error message when connecting USB devices to their computers. Fortunately, it’s a very common issue and can be easily fixed. Below we will give you all the suggestions that will help you to resolve this error message once and for all.
Windows: USB device not recognized? Solve it now!
Try the most basic solutions
The first thing you should do whenever you encounter this unknown USB device error is to reboot. Restarting the computer will fix the problem if it’s all due to a temporary glitch.
However, if that doesn’t work, try connecting the USB device to a different USB port.
However sometimes the message may appear due to any corruption in the operating system version installed on your computer. The solution in this case is to download the latest Windows update. To do so, open the Settings menu and select Windows Update from the left pane. Click the ‘Check’ button and wait for Windows to check and download any available updates.
Check changes from hardware
Device Manager comes with a hardware change option, which you can use whenever a connected USB device is unresponsive or showing an error message.
So click on the last symbol on the right and check if there are any changes.
Disable fast startup
Windows has a feature called Fast Startup that does exactly what the name implies. It is, in practice, an intermediate mode between hibernation and complete shutdown. It will not record the applications that are open. By the way, what state are you in? However, the operating system will be in a hibernated mode. So when you turn on the PC everything will be much faster. However, this is just one of the tips we are going to give you that will allow Windows to boot faster. We will then explain how to activate it.
In the search bar type definitions and click to access this menu. Then click System.
Right after that, in the left menu, click on Power and Suspension. Then on the right click on Additional Power Settings.
Now in the window that you see below, click on the left side on Choose what the on/off button does.
Now uncheck the box below Enable fast startup (recommended) and save the changes.
