Recreation modders Duke Nukem Forever 2001, posted on their YouTube channel a fresh video demonstrating the “first slice” of the game. In their work, the authors want to ensure that the game looks like it was shown on E3 2001. For the “restoration”, a build is used that was leaked to the network this year. Enthusiasts started small, but quickly organized a team the size of a small studio. It now employs people from all over the world, including industry experts, prominent community figures and prominent modders.
At the moment, the developers are focusing on polishing the first chapter High Stakes, Lady Killer, as well as fixing rendering and engine issues. They’ve already managed to restore much of the content shown in the E3 trailers and promotional material, and the writing team is working on a brand new story to fill in the gaps.
The first version of the Duke Nukem Forever Restoration project will be available online on December 21st. Players will be able to personally experience the updated first chapter, which consists of nine levels.
