After years of living in the shadows, Dwarf Fortress it landed on Steam just a few days ago and is enjoying unexpected success among gamers from all over the world.
Considered one of the most complex titles available, the game was released on the official website way back in 2003 and continues to be updated with new content to this day. On Steam, where you can buy it for approx 29 eurothe title landed on 6 December 2022, managing to place in less than two weeks the beauty of 300,000 copies which, in a nutshell, translate into collections equal to 9 million dollars for the very small development team.
During an interview, the developers said that for them it is a sort of revenge due to the lack of success of the game in the last 20 years, since most of the time Dwarf Fortress was considered a niche product and from the almost impassable barrier to entry, given the enormous complexity of the basic mechanics. However, it seems that times are changing and, also thanks to the diffusion of online tutorials and Steam communities, it is likely that the game is within everyone’s reach.
