As he writes “Kommersant”, the Government of the Russian Federation reflects on the possibility of systemic “support for the Russian video game industry until 2030”. However, the plans for this very support from the state are quite specific.
So, for example, the authorities could create developers accountable to the state and a large publisher like Electronic Arts. At the same time, after 8 years, developers must release 25 video games with a budget of more than 6.5 billion rubles and another 40 with a budget of up to 1.6 billion rubles. And the games themselves would have to compete with “popular world projects.” Also in Russia, by 2030, two new consoles and five “gamedev cities” should appear, and the number of employees in the industry will reach 40 thousand people.
At the same time, the state would like to create an “industry coordination center represented by ANO CE (will develop regulations and industry strategies), a competence center represented by Innopolis University (will prepare programs for training specialists and conduct research), as well as a center for strategic development of the industry “It will be a new organization”Rosgeim».
According to Kommersant, the authorities now envisage three scenarios for this initiative until 2030:
“stabilization” – assumes that Russia will enter the top 20 countries that develop video games, and will require $ 7 billion; “ambitious” – suggests some kind of “industry breakthrough” and requires $20; “leadership” – suggests that Russian studios will compete with world ones, and the state will use their work as a “soft power tool”. Requires $50 billion.
However, experts believe that, given the realities, it will be impossible to achieve these goals. For example, Gadzhi Makhtiev notes that now we need to focus on supporting the still functioning teams of developers and publishers, and not outline plans for the release of a certain number of products.
