retro console Atari VCS ordered to live long – the company’s management announced the cessation of production of devices in a fresh financial report.
The profitability of the project turned out to be very doubtful – only in the 2022-2023 financial year Atari earned $4.65 million, down 27% from the same period last year. However, the profit from the “iron” was reduced even more – the fall was as much as 92%, from $ 2.44 million to $ 212 thousand. Apparently, the gaming device simply did not find a new audience.
Initially introduced in 2017, the nostalgic game console changed its release date several times, unable to meet the demand of depositors from the site IndieGoGo and even found itself at the center of a scandal due to salary delays for employees working on the device.
Despite all the troubles, four years after the announcement, Atari VCS reached the first buyers – this happened in June 2021.
