In the latest video special, the developers at Motive Studios also talk about the work on the remake of “Dead Space”. This time it’s all about the improvements that aim to redefine the survival horror classic.
It continues with the video specials, with which the developers of Motive Studio want to sweeten the waiting time until the release of the “Dead Space” remake in the coming month.
As has been confirmed several times over the last few weeks, improvements to the gameplay and the way the story is told are being made in addition to completely new graphics. In the current episode of the video special, it is promised that the horror in the remake will be even more consistent than it was in the original released in 2008. Thanks to new hardware and tools, the display of the fog could be made dynamic, for example, which, according to the developer, makes the atmosphere appear even denser.
“We have more tricks and tools so we can go back to the original inspirations from Dead Space like The Thing, Alien, Event Horizon and those types of movies and look for elements in those movies that are either tried out or in the original due to technological limitations didn’t succeed or weren’t even tried because we couldn’t do it. Now we can,” the developers said.
The atmosphere is crucial
“For me, atmosphere is the most important thing,” added art director Mike Yazijian. “So we wanted to come back to that horror. What’s scariest in a horror film is the sense of light, light and dark, the play between the two. Now when you play the game it is darker. So as the player moves through the environment, the enemies move, you can see this play of light and dark.”
The USG Ishimura has also been revised. While the location of “Dead Space” was divided into different sections in the original released in 2008, the remake offers you a seamlessly connected map. Another innovation that has been talked about is the “Intensity Director” already presented, with which for a permanent tension should be taken care of.
The creative minds at Motive Studios explained: “It has soundtracks, animations and triggers in the environment. So you will have a fan that starts up. You will have creaks from the ship, you will have flickering lights, you will turn off lights, you will experience psychosis events. Just everything. Anything that happens in the script can happen with the intensity director. And that’s how we manage to make sure the lines blur and you’re never really sure what’s in the script and what’s not.”
