The youngest coach of the teams participating in the 2022 World Cup, Lilonel Scaloni, has also become the “youngest” coach of the world champions since 1978. The Argentinean played the final match against France at the age of 44, 216 days.
At a younger age, only four “coaches” led their wards to the champion title, and all of them were from South America. These are Uruguayans Alberto Supicci (1930 World Cup) and Juan Lopez (1950 World Cup), Brazilian Mario Zagalo (1970 World Cup) and Argentine Cesar Luis Menotti (1978 World Cup).
