Sony has some good surprises in store for us for the year 2023! PS6, PS5 Pro or even PS5 Slim, a new console should appear soon.
Towards a new Sony console in 2023?
During an interview on the Japanese site Famitsu, the Vice President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Hideaki Nishino split an answer that did not leave us indifferent. Here is the exchange translated into French:
Journalist : Now that the PS5 has entered its third year and the PS4 Pro has been released three years after the launch of the PS4, can you tell us about what the future holds?
Hideaki Nishino : We believe that cumulative sales will exceed 37 million units by the end of fiscal 2022 and this will also be a very important moment for the platform. I will not be able to give details at this time, but I would like to invite you to look ahead to next year (2023)
If the answer remains very enigmatic, we can still draw from this exchange that a new version of the PS5 would be in the boxes and would be released next year. Like the PS4 Pro before it, this console would release 3 years after the main release.
PS6, PS5 Pro or digital PS5? A new console from Sony is in the cards
Let’s clarify it immediately, it is highly unlikely that a PS6 will show up so quickly. Especially since the console, despite its great success, would never have emerged from the shortage it has experienced since its arrival on the market.
And what the rumors tell us is that a PS5 Pro would probably not be in the program either. Indeed, reports indicate that future consoles will be completely digital, like the Xbox Series S! The idea would then be to reduce construction and transport costs by this means, while increasing production in order to better meet international demand. For players who absolutely want a disc player, it would then be possible to buy it in addition.
On the part of Sony, this “all digital” strategy seems totally logical. By doing so, she continues her idea of reducing costs in order to ensure that her favorite console remains profitable. We had already experienced several revisions since the initial model. In 2021, a lighter and revised version had already been created, while the 2022 models continued on this search for greater lightness while switching to a 6nm chip whose production was much more efficient.
